Terms of Service

Effective August 6, 2026 · Last updated August 29, 2026

The three things that actually matter

  1. Your free trial converts to a paid plan automatically. We take the card up front, we email you before the first charge, and you can cancel in two clicks any time during the trial and pay nothing.
  2. Verify every deadline with the school. We pull dates from emails and public sources, and dates change without notice. We are an organiser, not a source of truth — a date in this app is a prompt to check, not a guarantee.
  3. We are not a college counsellor. No admissions, financial, tax or legal advice. Estimates are estimates.

1. Agreement

These Terms are a contract between you and Arcpoint Advisory LLC ("College Shortlist", "we", "us"). By creating an account or using the service, you accept them. If you don't accept them, don't use College Shortlist. Our Privacy Policy is part of these Terms.

2. Who may use it

  • You must be at least 13. Nobody under 13 may use College Shortlist.
  • If the student is under 18, a parent or legal guardian must create the account, accept these Terms, and supervise use. The adult is responsible for the account and for any charges on it.
  • One household per account. Personal, non-commercial use only.

3. Your account

Keep your password to yourself; you're responsible for what happens under your login. Tell us promptly at support@arcpointadvisory.net if you think someone else has access.

Anyone with the account login can see everything in the account, including the student's view. The parent/student boundary described in the Privacy Policy is a product design, not a security control against the account holder.

One account per person. Each student may hold only one College Shortlist account. Creating or using more than one account for the same person — for example to obtain more than one free trial, referral credit, complimentary subscription, or Ambassador Program slot — is not permitted. We may merge, suspend, or close duplicate accounts and reverse any benefit obtained through them. For participants in the Ambassador Program, holding or claiming more than one account is a material breach of these Terms and the Ambassador agreement, and is grounds for removal for cause — which may include forfeiture of Ambassador status and any complimentary subscription granted through the program.

4. Trial, billing, and automatic renewal

Please read this part properly.

  • Your plan starts with a 7-day free trial. We require a payment card to start it.
  • Unless you cancel before the trial ends, we will automatically charge the card the then-current price for your plan, shown on the pricing page and on the checkout screen before you confirm.
  • The plan then renews automatically each billing period (monthly, quarterly, or annual, depending on the plan you chose) at the then-current price until you cancel.
  • We will email you at least 3 days before the trial ends, and before any price change.
  • We will remind you before each renewal — at least 30 days before an annual renewal, and ahead of each quarterly or monthly renewal — and at least once every 12 months while your subscription continues. Each reminder states the plan, the amount and billing frequency, the renewal date, and how to cancel.
  • You can cancel at any time, in the app under Account → Manage subscription, or by emailing support@arcpointadvisory.net. Cancelling during the trial costs you nothing.

Prices. Current prices are on the pricing page and are shown to you before you confirm. Prices are in US dollars and exclude any applicable tax. If we change the price of your plan, we will tell you before it applies to you, and you can cancel instead.

Cancelling. Cancellation stops the next renewal. You keep access until the end of the period you've already paid for. We do not require you to call anyone or explain yourself.

Refunds. Your free trial is your risk-free window: cancel any time before it ends and you are never charged. After the trial, payments are non-refundable — cancelling stops your next renewal and you keep access through the end of the period you have already paid for, but the current period is not refunded. We may still choose to issue a refund at our discretion.

Failed payments. If a charge fails we may retry and may suspend paid features until it clears. Your data isn't deleted for non-payment — see the Privacy Policy for retention.

5. Accuracy — the important disclaimer

College Shortlist exists to stop deadlines getting lost in a flooded inbox. It is an organiser. It is not, and cannot be, an authoritative record of any school's requirements.

  • Deadlines change. We take dates from emails you forward and from published sources. Schools move dates, publish exceptions, and treat "priority" dates differently by program.
  • AI misreads things. Email parsing and summaries are AI-generated and will sometimes be wrong. Where our AI is unavailable, the app uses simpler parsing and labels the result.
  • Merit and cost figures are estimates. Where a school publishes an automatic award grid we show it and cite the source. Where merit is competitive — which is most schools — we say so. Meeting a published threshold is not an award. Nothing here is a financial-aid offer.
  • Admission estimates are estimates. They are not predictions and carry no weight with any school.

Confirm every deadline and every dollar figure directly with the institution before you rely on it. We are not liable for a missed deadline, a lost scholarship, or an admissions outcome. That is the deal, and we would rather be blunt about it than bury it.

6. Not advice

College Shortlist organises information. It does not provide admissions counselling, financial, tax, or legal advice, and using it does not create a professional relationship. For advice about your situation, talk to your school counsellor or a qualified professional.

7. Your content

You own what you write — your essays, notes, and lists. You give us only the permission we need to run the service for you: to store it, display it back to you, and process it as described in the Privacy Policy. We claim no ownership and we don't use your content to train AI models.

Only forward email you're entitled to forward. Don't upload anything unlawful or anyone else's confidential information.

8. Our intellectual property

Everything that makes up College Shortlist — the software, design, text, logos, the College Shortlist name, and the scholarship, cost, and deadline data we compile — belongs to Arcpoint Advisory LLC or its licensors. While your account is in good standing, we give you a personal, limited, non-transferable licence to use the service for your own college planning. You may not copy, resell, redistribute, scrape, or reverse-engineer the service or its data, or use our name or logo without our written permission. (Your own content stays yours — see section 7.)

9. Acceptable use

Don't: resell or redistribute the service or its data; scrape it; attack, probe, or overload it; use it to impersonate anyone; or use it to submit anything false to a school. We may suspend accounts that do these things.

10. Availability

We're a small team. We aim to keep College Shortlist running but we don't promise uninterrupted service, and third parties we depend on can fail. If the service is unavailable for an extended period during a paid term, email us and we'll sort out a fair credit.

11. Warranties and liability

The service is provided "as is" and, to the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, our total liability for any claim relating to College Shortlist is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. We are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, including missed deadlines, lost scholarships or aid, or admissions outcomes.

Some jurisdictions don't allow these exclusions, and nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited. Your statutory consumer rights are unaffected.

12. Ending it

You can close your account any time — see the Privacy Policy for what happens to your data. We may suspend or close an account that breaches these Terms, and will tell you why unless we're legally barred from doing so. If we close your account without cause, we'll refund the unused part of your term.

13. Changes

We may update these Terms. For material changes we'll email you at least 30 days before they take effect, and you can cancel if you don't accept them. Continuing to use College Shortlist after that means you accept the new Terms.

14. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of North Carolina, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. [DISPUTE FORUM — courts of [COUNTY, STATE]. Decide with counsel whether to add arbitration/class-waiver. It is not automatic that you should: it costs money to administer, and it is a bad look for a product marketed to parents about their children.]
